Hurricane Ian Relief

10/13/22 Update

St. Pete First Family,

We are working with our conference and district office to coordinate appropriate hurricane relief supplies to our brothers and sisters hit hard by Hurricane Ian. I have had several emails asking how we can help. I am deeply grateful for the heart of our church family.

At present, we are being advised NOT to travel to the affected areas until a clearer picture for safety has been identified.

Do you have a truck or SUV that can haul a trailer? The FLUMC Disaster Recovery Team in Lakeland is looking for people who can make themselves available IN THE FUTURE to haul hurricane recovery supplies to SW Florida. Gas will be reimbursed. INTERESTED? Call the church (727-894-4661) and give us your contact information.

Want to donate money? You may donate to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) or to the FLUMC designated offering for Hurricane Ian relief. The FLUMC Ian fund will go to churches’ and communities’ urgent needs to supplement what UMCOR will do.

St Pete First collected tarps, items for cleaning/flood buckets, and other supplies as a part of our Hurricane Ian relief work. These items, along with donations from our partner churches Christ UMC, First UMC Gulfport, Palm Harbor UMC, St. James UMC, and St. Paul UMC, were loaded onto a huge bus provided by St. Paul UMC and taken to Venice, FL on October 13.

Thank you to everyone who helped with this effort!
