Prayer focus: New Pathways
Read: Isaiah 48:17
This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is good for you
and leads you along the paths you should follow."
All my life I have been walking—from my childhood—walking to the corner store to buy candy—later—to the bus stop to attend college and finally in my career as a mail carrier.
One day as I was walking I crossed the street, changing the path I had been walking every day for the past few months. The path I had been walking on was familiar and comfortable. If you are like me, I plan. I have all my days neatly planned out—what to wear, where to go, what time to leave. I plan my vacation. I plan what I eat for dinner. I plan a daily “to do” schedule. But this day God was teaching me that He was walking with me. In the past year God had been drastically changing my life path—everything from retirement to selling my home of 30 years and moving. Proverbs 16:9 says, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” And, on this summer morning God opened my eyes by showing me this new path I was to begin in His light and hope.
Thought of the day: Remember that God will always show you which path to walk. How will you surrender your control today and let the Lord guide your steps? What is something in your life that you have been trying to desperately control that you need to surrender to Jesus? Take a moment or two in prayer and lay that burden at the feet of Jesus. He will surely be able to carry it for you.
