Lenten Devotional: March 7, 2023

by Craig Wills, Facilities Director

Throughout life I have become pretty good at planning projects out, identifying important steps, keeping key people in the loop, and making sure we have broad communication to avoid conflicts before they happen. I am often amazed at how smooth things can go. How often do things go smoothly though? Not often! So often we find that things are not what we expect, and I have learned that what I expect isn’t how it is, or how it goes all too often.

I have tried to release (deny?) some of my controlling and impulsive reactions to fix things.

I try to allow God to be in control of the plans, and I can react based on what’s happening instead of what I think should be happening.

I have this picture in my mind of the seeds that have been planted within me. Seeds of joy, seeds of peace, seeds of patience, seeds of wisdom. These seeds grow and I don’t know it; I don’t see them growing. I only see them after they have grown, when they bear fruit. I see them as the blessings in my life that God has had planned for me, since before I was born. These blessings change my life and they catch me off guard, and they help me to know that He is working His plan out. He knows me and He loves me, and He wants what is best for me!

Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
