“Apostles’ Creed” Number 881

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER / LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Pastor's Note

A NOTE FROM PASTOR MARGE Have you ever compared yourself to someone else? I know I have! According to some studies, as much as ten percent of our thoughts involve comparisons of some kind. It’s almost like our culture has hard-wired us to constantly compare. We compare ourselves to others all the time, whether it’s our looks, how much we make, how big our houses are, the grades we make in school, etc. We even compare our religiosity to others: how much of the Bible we’ve memorized, how often we go to church, whether or not we are in a small group, how often we pray, and the list goes on. We compare restaurants, TV shows, spouses, children, personalities, vacations…we literally are comparing constantly. In Luke 18:9-14, Jesus teaches on comparison and just how harmful and damaging comparison is to our relationship with our God. Really, when we compare ourselves to others, we are just trying to determine our own social and personal worth based on how we stack up against others. If the Gospel of Jesus Christ has taught us anything, it’s that our worth does not come from this world or anything in this world. Our worth does not come from all of the amazing things we’ve done or the big jobs we have or the children we raise or the person we marry or our accomplishments. We are worthy because of what Jesus did for us. We are made worthy and righteous because of Christ’s finished work on the cross. I would like to invite you today to stop trying to prove your worth by comparing yourself to others. An immeasurable price has already been paid on your behalf that will forever satisfy God. What a relief!

— Pastor Marge

This Sunday are celebrating all fathers and father-figures. Enjoy a donut with your Dad or another important father-figure in your life in the Fellowship Hall between services; we'll also have a photo booth set up to celebrate the day.

VBS is THIS week!

We're getting ready for Vacation Bible School to start on Monday - you'll see a preview of the out-of-this-world decorations as soon as you enter the building. THANK YOU, volunteers and staff who worked so hard all week and will continue to serve during VBS!! VBS begins on Monday, and will run all week from 9 am to noon. Please pray for our children and our youth and adult staff this week as they learn to shine Jesus' light!

No 8 AM Service NEXT SUNDAY (June 25):

Next Sunday we are celebrating our children and youth. Remember that there will NOT be a service at 8 am next Sunday (on 6/25). Please join us on June 25 at 9:30 or 11:00 to hear some of our children and youth share testimonies and music. Don't miss it!

Common Grounds 2.0:

Coffee and pastry are great, but fellowship and human connection are better served when we discover an opportunity to serve one another. We need your help to reimagine the Common Grounds ministry. A simple act of hospitality can change everything. Contact Chad Simonds to find out how.

VBS Donation:

This year for Vacation Bible School we are accepting donations to purchase snacks instead of asking everyone to bring something in. This way, we are sure to get exactly what we need. Also, our outreach mission for this year will be St. Pete High Green Devils’ Pantry to supply backpacks for kids to start the new school year. If you would like to donate to VBS in any way, please use the QR code here, and your donation will go directly to VBS

Save the Date—St. Pete First Day at the Rays (8/12):

We're happy to announce that the 5th Annual St. Pete First Group Rays Game is scheduled with the Cleveland Guardians @ Tropicana Field. This game is the annual Rays Faith Day Game whereby the postgame event features the Rays Team Chaplain and player testimonies. There is also a Shane McClanahan bobblehead giveaway.
