“Apostles’ Creed” Number 881

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PASTORAL PRAYER / LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Pastor's Note

A NOTE FROM PASTOR BOB This week I learned of the death of one of my favorite Christian writers and theologians, The Reverend Timothy (Tim) Keller. His writings have been read by many of our parishioners. One of our classes just completed his book on Forgiveness, and not long ago on Wednesday evenings, I led a study on his book, “The Prodigal God.” What I really loved about Pastor Keller was his down-to-earth way of helping people understand difficult topics and subjects many of us wish to avoid or are too afraid to ask. I noted in a story about his life it highlighted his focus on helping churches understand the incredible love of God. I think that is something we church folk think we know or act upon but when I look at so much happening in our world I have to wonder, “Do we really understand the incredible love of God?” One of the things our loving God lays on my heart each day is no matter how much we think we know, there is still so much for us to learn. That is why I have dedicated myself to living into the reality of doing what John Wesley (the founder of the Methodist Movement) said, “Work on my salvation daily.” Tim Keller lived a great life and I truly believe daily he sought for a deeper pursuit of sanctification. I hope when my time comes to stand before Jesus, I can say the same: “Daily I sought to be sanctified” (to be like Jesus). Will you join me in that pursuit, my friends?

— Pastor Bob

Vacation Bible School is coming—we need YOU to volunteer!

VBS begins in 4 weeks, and it takes MANY willing hearts and hands to make it happen.

We need all hands on deck to help decorate the Fellowship Hall and Sanctuary for VBS! Experience is not required :) Come down anytime you can during the week of June 12-16 between 9am and 1 pm and we'll be happy to put you to work.

Email Lora at lulrich@fumcsp.org or call the church office, 894-4661, ext. 2125 for all the details!

VBS Donations Needed:

This year for Vacation Bible School we are accepting donations to purchase snacks instead of asking everyone to bring something in. This way, we are sure to get exactly what we need. Also, our outreach mission for this year will be St. Pete High Green Devils’ Pantry to supply backpacks for kids to start the new school year. If you would like to donate to VBS in any way, please use the QR code here, and your donation will go directly to VBS!
