Pastor's Note

A NOTE FROM PASTOR BOB

Hey Friends,

I learned a very valuable lesson during my time of renewal. I think two people live inside of me. Now, before you think I’m losing it, let me explain. There is a side of me that really wants to be super spiritual. One who basks in God’s presence every single moment and shuts out the world. The other one inside of me is the doer. It’s the personality that gets restless and doesn’t respond well to the quiet, melodic and spiritual side. It’ the personality that drives me to set goals, achieve things in life, make a difference… all by “doing.”  Both of these people inside of me are a good thing. The quiet, spiritual sojourner seeking God’s voice plays a huge role. The doer is also important. Without the doer I’d probably just sit on the couch eating pork rinds and watching Netflix. My discovery during my renewal leave was that there must be balance. I can’t be all contemplative without doing and I can’t do, without contemplating. That’s why the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 remains in my head. I’m so glad I was able to some extent to tame my Martha but even more joyfully Mary showed up!  Have a super week!

— Pastor Bob

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Young(ish) Adults is now The Gap!

The Gap is a Sunday School class for adults who are in the busiest, most intense stage of life, juggling the demands of their careers, their relationships, and parenting—both up and down. This is the gap where the chaos of life seems to happen. If you are in that gap, trying to figure out how to live for Jesus while juggling day-to-day demands, then this class is for you. Together, we discover and discuss how to create space for God by turning what we do every day into living life for Christ, serving Jesus through our daily relationships and responsibilities. Join us in The Gap! We meet Sundays at 10:45 in Room 101.

The Gap study of The Book of Jonah (begins 8/25):

When God’s Purpose Isn’t in Your Plans … The book of Jonah is best known for Jonah’s run-in with a giant fish. But there’s more to the story. It’s about God’s grace, compassion, and love toward his wayward people. In this six-week study, we will learn that God is determined to spread His word to all the nations and use His people to do it. God desires to transform our hearts as we carry out His purpose in the world. Join us as we renew our sense of what it means to orient our lives around God’s mission.
