Congratulations to two of our St. Pete First members on being two of 10 volunteers inducted into the St. Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame on April 16, 2025 at the Mahaffey Theater. Since 1983, the St Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame has recognized 10 senior volunteers each year who have made a significant impact in championing positive aging and served as inspiring role models. The award reads, “In recognition of your outstanding contributions to the City of St Petersburg and its residents through your volunteerism.” Inductees also met with the mayor and city council chair (Ken Welch and Copley Gerdes) at City Hall on May 8.
Tal Bratton was nominated by Better Living for Seniors, an affiliate of the Area Agency on Aging Pinellas/Pascoe, for his leadership and growth of their Silver Santas program. An all-volunteer organization, Silver Santas distributed over 1700 Christmas gift bags In 2024 to low income isolated seniors, primarily through assisted living facilities. Tal was also recognized for his other varied volunteer efforts including those at St Pete First.
Sue Allen was nominated by Neighborly Senior Care Network for her work with their Meals on Wheels program. Sue has been recruiting and organizing a team of volunteers and delivering Meals on Wheels (MOW) to clients in St. Petersburg for almost 29 years. In that time, she has recruited over 51 volunteers, 27 of whom are still active. Sue and the Meals on Wheels team deliver nutritious food to homebound seniors every week, and they connect with each senior, reducing their isolation. Along with the meals, the St. Pete First team delivers smiles, a little conversation, and a lot of love. Sue was also recognized for her other volunteer efforts with the Pinellas County Schools, United Way, and St. Pete First.
Thank you, Sue and Tal, for sharing your time and talents to the benefit of so many citizens of St. Petersburg. You are inspiring role models and we are so glad to have you as a part of St. Pete First!
