Lenten Devotional: March 6, 2026

A Lenten Devotional On Prayer

Scripture Reflection: Psalms 145:18 NIV

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”

God’s nearness is not measured by emotion, but by truth.  He doesn’t move toward us after we pray, rather He is already near.  What is so comforting about prayer is that it  awakens our awareness of Him and just how near He is.

We aren't ever calling across an enormous gap, but we are calling within an intimate relationship.  Calling on God “in truth” isn’t perfect wording or polished faith.  It is raw and beautiful honesty in a personal space with Our Father.  We don’t have to be strong in every moment, all we have to do is remain turned toward Him.

Many of us were taught how to speak about God, but what if today, we reflect on how to speak with Him.  Truthful prayer removes the mask and suddenly, His presence feels closer because our heart is soft and open.

Sometimes when we are going through a wilderness season, challenges can be overwhelming.  “I’m tired.”  “I’m afraid.”  “I don’t understand.” are all okay and accepted in the eyes of the Lord.  God draws near to authenticity.  Sometimes God doesn’t immediately fix the situation, because His first gift is Himself.  Remember, the presence of pressure does not mean the absence of God.  Prayer is a gift that allows us to truly rest in Him and know that.  It is His presence that shapes us and gives us the strength to carry what He has called us to.

There is comfort in His nearness.  Coming to God in prayer, just as we are is enough.  We are not handling today or any day alone.   A simple pause to abide invites our Lord closer.  Even our sighs count as prayer.  Our thoughts are heard before they are spoken.  Patience meets promise.  Love meets wilderness.  Prayer meets perseverance.  Remember, you are deeply loved and carried by His grace and mercy.  May your prayer this Lent be less about striving and more about resting in God’s love.

Reflection

Instead of asking for the right words today, just tell God the real ones or take a moment to breathe and rest in Him.  Where honesty begins, intimacy grows.

Prayer

Lord,

Thank You that I don’t have to reach far to find You.  You are closer than my worries and deeper than my thoughts.  Teach me to come honestly, not carefully.  Let my prayers be real, and let Your nearness become my peace.  I welcome Your presence at this very moment and forevermore.

 Amen.

Declaration/ Mantra: God is near to me right now.  I will speak to Him honestly and rest in His presence.
