Deliverance from your “Egypt”

by Jackie Epstein

Read:

Exodus 29:45-46

“45 Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. 46 They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.”

God saw His people suffering and hurting in Egypt, and when the time was right, delivered them from their slavery, and fulfilled His promise to them.

We all have an “Egypt.” Maybe it’s loneliness, or addiction, or an illness, or no contentment or peace, or seemingly hopeless situations, or having no known direction in life…you fill in the blank. Whatever it is, God wants to deliver you from it! He wants to deliver you from the things you can’t escape on your own. From the things that are holding you captive, and the things you can’t let go of. He wants to dwell in you, and He wants to be your God. Your job is to trust that He will always fulfill His promises, and that He will always sustain our needs. Pour out your heart to the Lord and tell Him what it is that you need to be delivered from. Open the door that He is knocking on.

Yes, God is the only one capable of delivering us from our “Egypt,” but He isn’t going to do anything, if we don’t make the first move. We have to open the door and allow Him to come work in us. He is always willing to work with us, if we are willing to open up to Him.

One of my favorite quotes says this:

“You can pray all you want, but eventually David had to pick up a stone and act against Goliath.”

So if you are praying for a miracle and nothing seems to be happening, maybe you should try picking up the stone.

Meditation:

What are some things in your life acting as your Egypt? What are you going to do as your first step towards going to God for deliverance? Or in other words, what stone do you have to pick up? Remember that God is continually knocking on the door to come into your life, it’s just up to you to invite Him in. Try to find a quiet, calm place where you can be one-on-one with God. Ask Him what it is that you need to do in order to be delivered from whatever is holding you back.
